SNAPSHOT: Feeding Tasmanians
January 25, 2012
IGA has presented Anglicare with $10,000 worth of food vouchers as part of its Community Relief program.
The generous donation by IGA Supermarkets will be primarily used to support Anglicare clients on the east coast of Tasmania.
“This will make an enormous difference to people who are geographically isolated and struggling with the cost of living,” said local Anglicare worker Thom Ryan.
“The cost of living is higher here than in the state’s major cities and while rents were once significantly cheaper, that is no longer the case,” he said. Thom said one of the key issues for local people were expenses associated with making regular trips to town to access specialised medical services.
“But the east coast has tremendous strengths including a generosity of spirit and willingness to assist others as shown by regular donations of cash and household items,” he said. “The smaller size of our communities makes it less likely that people fall through the cracks and most people are referred to Anglicare through word of mouth”.
