Supporting Refugees
| Anglicare is committed to valuing and celebrating difference and diversity within society and supports social justice for all. One of the most disadvantaged groups within our community are people who have fled persecution and danger in other countries and sought refuge in Australia. Refugees and asylum seekers face incredible challenges as they seek to rebuild their lives and families in a community far from home. Depending on the way in which they have travelled to get to Australia, some refugees live in our community with only temporary protection or in Australian immigration detention centres on the mainland and overseas. Anglicare seeks to support refugees making a home in Tasmania and to advocate on behalf of refugees and asylum seekers more broadly. > Anglicare is the clearing-house for the community network Tasmanians for Refugees. > We are a part of Friends of the Cerens, a community-based group supporting the Ceren family in their quest for permanent protection in Tasmania. > There are a range of other support services provided by Anglicare and by other organisations that are often accessed by refugees settling in Tasmania. > There are also a number of useful websites on refugee issues. |
