The Ceren family, Vanessa Ceren, her partner Nestor Rodriguez and children Katherine, Sophia, Jeshua and Joseph, are refugees from El Salvador who have lived in Hobart for almost three years. Jeshua and Joseph were born here. The family is currently on a bridging visa, which means they are not eligible for any government assistance. They are waiting for the Minister for Immigration, Kevin Andrews, to decide whether or not they can stay in Australia, but they do not have any timeline for the decision.
Anglicare is a member of Friends of the Cerens, a group that is providing practical help and support to the Ceren family. The group has coordinated a petition and letters in support of the Cerens’ application and held a number of fundraising events to provide funds for legal costs and financial support for the family.
