Affordable Housing Crisis Forums Print E-mail
On 15 November and 6 December 2006, public forums were organised on Tasmania’s housing crisis.

The aim of the forums were to engage the community in a broader debate about affordable housing. The forums were organised by the Affordable Housing Crisis Coalition, which included Anglicare, Centacare, Colony 47, the Health and Community Services Union, Hobart City Mission, the Housing Industry Association, Launceston City Mission, the Salvation Army, Shelter Tasmania, TasCOSS and Unions Tasmania. The Coalition formed as a short-term campaigning group in the lead-up to the most recent state election and has since ceased to operate formally, although all the organisations involved continue to work together to address the housing crisis.

Written addresses and speaking notes from some of the forum participants provide a deeper exploration of the issues.

Housing: Building a Better Future
The Tasmanian community sector's Advocacy Day at Parliament House on 16 October was a big success. As the State Budget is finalised and the new Federal Government settles into place, we will be keeping the focus on the need and right of all Tasmanians to have access to affordable housing.
