The Refugee Council of Australia has an excellent website with lots of current information about asylum seekers and refugees in Australia and excellent links to national and international websites. The United Nations Association of Australia. The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship. A Just Australia provides excellent information including campaign material and information on a range of issues. Amnesty International Australia has information about a range of issues on refugee rights. They provide accessible explanations about legislation and the impact of legislative changes with advice about how best to lobby on particular issues. Australians Against Racism aims to counter destructive stereotyping of race and culture by actively promoting understanding and debate through the media, arts, education and the law. Children out of Detention (ChilOut) focuses on child refugees and asylum seekers. Their website has excellent links with other refugee activists’ groups and on line petitions. The Edmund Rice Centre is the source of the excellent Just Comment Debunking the Myths about Asylum Seekers facts sheets. Spare Rooms for Refugees is Victorian-based project to help asylum seekers enter the community, support refugees and promote alternatives to detention. |
