Anglicare will soon be able to offer another option for people who are on low incomes and are looking for affordable housing on Hobart’s Eastern Shore.
Anglicare already manages three other supported accommodation facilities in Burnie, Launceston and Hobart, providing accommodation for up to 96 residents. “Our Lodges in Launceston, Burnie and Hobart are very successful in helping people to live happier lives,” said Anglicare CEO, Chris Jones. “A lot of our residents have now been with us long-term. We have had many success stories. Many of our residents have been faced with homelessness and uncertainty over their futures, the Lodges have given them the chance to stabilise their lives, get jobs and build connections in their communities. “We are delighted to be able to offer people living on the Eastern Shore the same opportunities and look forward to welcoming residents when the new facility opens.” Anglicare’s Accommodation Support Manager, Belinda Jones said that supported residential facilities provided a communal living environment for people who found things difficult in the private or public rental markets, but who didn’t require intensive support. “Presently, Anglicare and government representatives are talking to close neighbours and we will endeavour to keep locals residents informed as the project progresses,” she said. “Obviously it won’t be for everyone, but for our residents, the companionship of communal living is just what they’re looking for. “To be eligible to live at one of our Lodges, you need to be on a low income and have limited support needs, but other than that, we welcome people over eighteen years of age, and from all walks of life.” This new Supported Residential Facility is an initiative of the Tasmanian Government’s Affordable Housing Strategy, and is managed by Anglicare. |
