Break Even is for people who have a gambling problem, and their families and friends.
Break Even offers: - personal and family counselling for everyone affected by a gambling problem
- financial counselling
- exclusions from gambling venues
- resources and information about gambling problems and where to get help
- confidentiality
Is there a cost? No. The Break Even services network is funded by the Community Support Levy using profits from gaming machines in hotels and clubs. Break Even is available statewide. Please call 1800 243 232. Break Even services are offered by other organisations as well. They include: - Gambling Helpline Tasmania - call 1800 858 858 (24 hours)

How does someone know they have a problem?When they: - are preoccupied with gambling (e.g. with reliving past wins, planning their next venture, or thinking of ways to get money to gamble)
- need to gamble with increasing amounts of money in order to achieve the desired excitement
- have repeatedly made unsuccessful efforts to control, cut back or stop gambling
- are restless or irritable when attempting to cut down or stop gambling
- gamble as a way of escaping from problems or relieving an unpleasant feeling (e.g. feelings of helplessness, guilt, anxiety or depression)
- after losing money gambling, often return another day to try and win the money back
- lie to family members, counsellors, or others to conceal the extent of involvement with gambling
- have committed crimes such as forgery, fraud, theft, or embezzlement to finance gambling
- have jeopardised or lost a significant relationship, job, or educational or career opportunity because of gambling
- rely on others to provide money to relieve a desperate financial situation caused by gambling
