Communities for Children
Communities for Children is an Australian Government initiative that will support a number of communities around Australia. It focuses on families with children aged 0-5, including expectant mothers.

In northern Tasmania, the project is based in Launceston's northern suburbs of Waverley, Ravenswood, Invermay, Inveresk, Mowbray, Mayfield, Newnham and Rocherlea, and extends down the river to include George Town and surrounds. There is a budget for up to $3 million spread over four years.

Project priorities

Project support and funding will be based around five key areas:

  • healthy young families
  • early learning and care
  • supporting families and parents
  • creating child-friendly communities
  • ensuring family and children’s services work effectively as a system
