Thank you for taking action to reduce gambling harm

The Tasmanian Government has announced it will bring in a new system to give people an easy way to set their spending limit before they gamble on a poker machine.

This is an important public health measure supported by research.

The pre-commitment system was independently recommended by the Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission. The system will feature a card with daily, weekly and annual limits.

This initiative will see Tasmania lead the nation.

It will provide important protections by allowing people to decide in advance how much they’re prepared to lose. The default limits will be $100 per day, $500 per month and $5000 a year. It will protect people from losing more than they can afford.

The system will be introduced by December 2024.

Please write to your local Government MP to welcome this decision. It’s a good move that will help to reduce and prevent gambling harm from poker machines.
