Exploring the world

Nigel Duerden is a man who loves to travel.

His latest adventure was to the south island of New Zealand.

“I liked the peninsula and the water,” said Nigel, who particularly admired the coastal scenery near Dunedin. Other activities he enjoyed included punting on the Avon River at Christchurch, eating delicious meals, and scouring local book stores for written treasures.

Nigel is a resident of Wendy Place, a shared home in Launceston for people with disabilities.

Deb Robinson from Anglicare’s Residential Support Services accompanied Nigel on his holiday. Deb supported Nigel to navigate customs and accommodation, as well as driving him between NZ cities. “Nigel is very independent and was an excellent travelling companion,” she said.

Nigel is now saving for his next trip away. “I’ll go to a different place – probably the Gold Coast,” he said.

Anglicare provides practical support for people to live life the way they choose. This can include support with daily living and personal care, social and community participation, and achieving goals for health and wellbeing.
