Never too many cooks in the kitchen at Trinity Hill

Trinity Hill is a Youth2Independence accommodation and learning centre in North Hobart that is run by Anglicare. The young people who live there had the chance to join a cooking workshop with a professional chef this month.

They created 200 serves of lasagne, Thai beef noodle salad, lamb korma curry, lemon chicken stir fry and a healthy dessert option.

The meals were a welcome addition to the fridges and freezers in students’ units.

The workshop received funding from a Calvary Community Council grant. The grant was also used to buy a binding machine to assist with the creation of a recipe book. It will be added to the welcome pack for new students and used in regular cooking workshops.

Senior Youth Development Coach Rebekka Gale said the students enjoyed learning new skills and tricks of the trade.

“We have a commercial kitchen on site and it was a valuable insight into what it would be like to work in this environment,” she said.

“For those students currently undertaking the Certificate 1 in Developing Independence, this was a great opportunity to use their experiences in the kitchen as part of their assessments.”

Trinity Hill has sister facilities in Devonport (Eveline House) and Launceston (Thyne House).  Visit here more information on Anglicare Tasmania’s Youth2Independence managed facilities.

All three provide safe, affordable accommodation for young people who are on a low income. Any enquiries need to come through Housing Connect.
