New office at Sorell
Anglicare has officially opened a new office at Sorell – to serve one of the State’s fastest growing municipalities.
“We have been working in this region for the past ten years and, with the purchase of this building, are putting down permanent roots,” said Anglicare CEO Chris Jones. “We have a long-term commitment to this place and the people who live here”.
The new office at 42 Cole St has allowed Anglicare to expand the range of services on offer. The local Anglicare team has a broad range of skills to support people through life challenges including financial, relationship, housing, and health matters. Anglicare also delivers disability support and community aged care in the region. The new office means people can access tailored support in a comfortable and confidential environment.
“This region has a diverse population with people of all ages, life stages and economic statuses,” said Anglicare coordinator, Gordon McDonald. “It’s home to established suburbs, new housing developments, farming communities, and tourism-focused centres,” he said. “There’s a strong sense of self-sufficiency, but people sometimes feel isolated. We want them to know that support is available here”.
Gordon said Anglicare also valued its positive working relationships with other local services such as schools, Community Houses and the Men’s Shed.
Speaking at the opening of the Anglicare office, Mayor Kerry Vincent thanked Anglicare for its work in the regional hub. “These are vital services and Anglicare helps to put a lot of positive things back out into this community,” he said.
Artwork by Aboriginal elder Verna Nichols will be displayed in the Sorell office. Aunty Verna officially welcomed the opening guests to the land of the Oyster Bay tribe and local Anglican minister Joel Kettleton prayed for the ongoing work of Anglicare in the region.
