Responding to the reality of Tasmania’s housing crisis

This snapshot of the Housing Connect Front Door Service covers the quarter from July 2025 to September 2025.

Compared to the same period last year, there was:

• a 42% increase in the number of Tasmanians seeking housing support
• an 76% increase in the number of people sleeping rough; and a
• 63% increase in people living in inadequate or substandard dwellings.

The snapshot reveals that some Tasmanians are living in conditions more commonly seen in developing countries.

On the eve of the state budget, it calls on the Tasmanian government to step up its response to the housing crisis.
