Submission to the review by KPMG of the future of public and affordable housing provision in Tasmania

Social Action and Research Centre Submission

Anglicare’s principal concern in this discussion is for low income earners, including those on income support payments, the ‘working poor’, people living in public housing, people on the public housing waiting list, and people who are either eligible for public housing but do not apply or who are not eligible for public housing but still facing considerable financial hardship due to high housing costs. Anglicare has concluded that the best option for the future of Tasmania’s public housing system, existing and future tenants and low income earners generally is for the Government to retain public housing as a core government service but with a different funding structure.
