Donations reduce winter pressures

Anglicare Tasmania is grateful for the community’s generous response to its Winter Appeal.
Financial and in-kind donations from Anglican parishes and schools, community groups and caring individuals provide the people we support with dignity, choice and hope at a time of year which is challenging for many Tasmanians.
Parish Community Development Worker Margaret Savage uses the donations to put together hampers for the people we engage with through our community services, housing and aged care programs across the state.
“At Anglicare we are committed to listening to our clients about their unique needs and tailoring additional support that will make a difference in their lives,” she said.
“We all know that the cost of essentials has skyrocketed in recent months. Pantry staples, cleaning supplies and toiletries have become so expensive that it’s difficult to make a low income stretch to cover them. When we provide these things to people, it provides them with peace of mind and frees them up to buy special items for themselves and their children – the things that spark joy – which is so important.”
“Parents delighted”
Anglicare’s Child and Youth Healthy Minds program supports children and young people who are showing early signs of mental illness, or who are at risk of developing mental illness. Currently offered in the South, North West and West, it provides free, non-clinical support for a variety of situations including anxiety, grief and loss, low self-esteem and where a young person is finding it difficult to maintain relationships with their peers or within the family.
One of our southern-based practitioners, Sam, enjoyed distributing hampers that Margaret had made up using donated goods, including food items, toiletries and cleaning supplies.
“The parents in our program were surprised and delighted,” she said. “Many families are struggling to afford the basics these days, and they really appreciated this extra help. It shows that as a community, we care.”
Real impact
Sometimes, making a real difference starts with practical help at exactly the right time. During the period 1 July 2025 – 30 June 2026, donations provided, among other things:
- 89 rental assistance payments, helping people to maintain stable housing
- 34 pairs of sports shoes, for children returning to school
- 1 boxing bag, to help someone improve their fitness
- 2 bassinettes and bottles for premature newborn twins
- a bath chair and continence aids for an older person.

Anglicare launches an appeal at the beginning of winter and ahead of the Christmas season.
We also welcome donations at any time throughout the year, either as a once-off contribution or smaller, regular amounts. They are immediately put to good use. We don’t apply an administrative fee, so 100% of your donation goes directly to people in need.
