Home Care Worker Traineeship

Anglicare’s Aged and Home Care Services have Home Care Worker traineeships available for people who would like to work with older Tasmanians in their homes in the Burnie, Devonport and Launceston areas.

We offer permanent part-time positions that allow you to work and study at the same time. You will be provided with guidance and support to complete the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification, the Certificate III Individual Support (Ageing).

The traineeship role is a permanent part-time position, and applicants must be available Monday to Friday (7am to 5pm).

The traineeship will suit people who have just finished school or who are looking for a new career.

The day-to-day job of a support worker is full of variety and is built around the needs of the person you are supporting.  You will support them to live life to the fullest and achieve their personal goals.  It may include helping them to carry out daily tasks like:

  • personal care (showering, grooming and dressing)
  • medication administration
  • meal preparation
  • manual handling
  • transport to access the community
  • making payments and/or purchases
  • record keeping and reporting
  • domestic assistance

The role may also involve supporting a person to stay connected with their friends, family and the community, learn new skills or pursue their personal interests and hobbies.

How does the traineeship work?

If you are offered a traineeship, you will be enrolled in the Certificate III Individual Support (Ageing) CHC33021B course with Avidity Tasmania in partnership with Mas National for a duration of 12-18 months.

The course requires approximately 10-15 hours of study per week that you will complete in your own time.   You will be required to complete 120 hours of work placements in clients’ homes that will be paid as part of your part-time position.

The course consists of 15 units, 9 core units and 6 elective units. The core units include:

  • CHCCCS031 Provide individualised support
  • CHCCCS038 Facilitate the empowerment of people receiving support
  • CHCCCS040 Support independence and wellbeing
  • CHCCCS041 Recognise healthy body systems
  • CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
  • CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  • CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically
  • HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control
  • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care

You will be supported every step of the way by qualified trainers from Avidity and members of Anglicare’s Aged and Home Care Services team.  We will match you with a buddy – an experienced Home Care Worker who will work alongside you in our clients’ homes during your placements.

On successful completion of your traineeship, you will receive a nationally recognised qualification that will set you up for a career as a Home Care Worker with Anglicare.

What are the minimum requirements?

All Anglicare employees must be willing to gain the following before starting the position:

  • Australian Residency status or valid Australian working rights
  • Provisional or full Australian Driver’s Licence and an insured, reliable motor vehicle
  • Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People registration
  • National Police Check (Working with Vulnerable People registration)
