Meeting needs this winter

A thoughtful response to Anglicare’s Winter Appeal is helping people meet their urgent needs.
Parish Community Development Worker Margaret Savage says Anglicare is using Winter Appeal donations to respond to people’s specific circumstances.
“The Anglicare team delivers statewide programs that focus on housing, mental health, children’s wellbeing, and care for older people and people with an acquired injury. Most of these people are living on low and fixed incomes and we know that winter can be a particularly difficult time for them.
“Donations are helping us to put food on tables, help families stay housed by paying a household bill and assisting people across all stages of life with the cost of living in other ways.”
Margaret is enjoying working directly with Anglicare’s parish partners, including St Georges Battery Point, South East Anglican (Sorell) and Lindisfarne Anglican, and community-focused social groups like the Yarn Time knitters at Triabunna.
Highly attuned to the level of need in their local communities, they’re providing her with shopping bags filled to the brim with grocery items, essential toiletries, cleaning items and even in a recent case, cookware.
“The parishioners at Lindisfarne Anglican Church told me they couldn’t get a house for people, but they could help with food,” said Margaret.
“The young people at our Youth2 Independence facilities are always so excited when they know I’m coming for a visit. The students cook for themselves in their own units, so the pots and pans donated by St Georges Battery Point will be a huge hit!”
Anglicare’s Winter Appeal will stay open until the end of July.
