Home Care Funding: Reducing the Wait

Anglicare has called for further government funding to reduce the wait time for older people needing home care.

“It’s frustrating, and often heart-breaking, when people face a delay of more than a year for practical support,” said CEO Chris Jones. “This can lead to a decline in health or a move into residential aged care that might otherwise have been avoided”.

Regular, tailored support makes a significant difference to people’s quality of life, wellbeing and independence.

In Tasmania, many older people have been independently assessed and approved for home care – but are on a waiting list for government funding. They include people aged in their nineties who have been identified as requiring a level 4 package – the highest level available – but face a wait of up to 18 months.

ABC News recently highlighted the issue, interviewing 93 year old Joan Webb from Launceston and Anglicare CEO Chris Jones.

Anglicare stands ready and willing to bring this important home care support to older Tasmanians.
