Supported independent living (SIL) for people living with mental health challenges

Curraghmore is a large and beautifully designed supported independent living property located in Devonport, North West Tasmania.  It provides a safe, supportive and restorative environment for people who live with mental health challenges.

Residents living at Curraghmore have NDIS funding for supported independent living on a long-, medium- or short-term basis, including planned and emergency respite.

Curraghmore also welcomes enquiries for self-funded respite stays or funding from other mental health related programs.

The residence

Curraghmore is a spacious and beautifully designed property which is perfectly suited for community living.

Indoors it features:

  • three comfortable wings, each offering private ensuite bedrooms with a shared kitchen, dining and living spaces
  • a commercial kitchen, main dining room and shared living room for group meals and activities
  • a self-contained two-bedroom unit for single or shared living, with a staff room for onsite support
  • a dedicated games room with a pool table, and
  • a calming sensory room.

Outside, residents can enjoy:

  • peaceful gardens
  • a communal vegetable garden
  • sunny and shaded sitting areas
  • a covered gazebo and BBQ area, and
  • basketball hoop.

Support available at Curraghmore

People living at Curraghmore have access to a mental health support 24 hours per day, including an awake night shift.  This ensures they have continuous access to timely, professional support.

Each resident is supported to create a personalised Wellness Support Plan that reflects their support needs, individual preferences and NDIS goals.

Community and social

Our team recognises the importance of supporting residents to engage in their community and build and maintain social connections.  We encourage participation in meaningful activities that align with their goals and interests.

Transport

We believe in the power of community integration and encourage our residents to explore and connect with the vibrant community around them.  For participants with NDIS Transport funding, we can provide access to a vehicle for their needs.

Lifestyle

Curraghmore is close to shopping, cafes, cinemas, an aquatic centre, beaches, waterfront walking and bike tracks, healthcare services and public transport.

Our team runs a monthly calendar of activities featuring:

  • group cooking sessions
  • bike riding
  • arts and crafts
  • gardening
  • games, walks and outdoor activities
  • local community events, and
  • celebrations.

Other activities can be arranged based on each resident’s interests.

We’ll support you to find the option that best suits your needs and goals.

At Curraghmore, we understand that every journey is unique. That’s why we offer a range of accommodation options tailored to your situation:

  • Supported Independent Living (SIL) – 24/7 support in a shared home environment to assist with daily tasks, build independence, and support recovery.
  • Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) – up to 90 days of supportive accommodation while you prepare for your next step or transition into longer-term housing.
  • Short Term Accommodation (STA), including respite and emergency respite – from 1 to 42 days, giving you or your carers time to recharge, explore new routines, or enjoy a change of environment.

Whether you’re looking for a long-term home or just a short stay, our team will work with you to make sure your time at Curraghmore supports your independence, wellbeing and goals.

Eligibility criteria

This program is available to adults who:

  • have a primary or secondary psychosocial disability​
  • have been​ approved for NDIS funded supports that can be used for accommodation
  • do not require ‘High Intensity Supports’ as defined by the NDIS Commission, and/or can arrange for community supports to manage this need.

NDIS funding for one of the following supports is required:

  • Supported independent living (SIL)
  • Individualised living option (ILO)
  • Medium-term accommodation (STA/Respite including emergency respite)
