Submission to the Productivity Commission inquiry into GST distribution reforms

Anglicare Tasmania calls for a return to full horizontal fiscal equalisation

The principle of horizontal fiscal equalisation is foundational to social justice in Australia and enables people in all states and territories to receive a similar level of government services.

In its submission to the Productivity Commission’s enquiry into the 2018 Goods and Services Tax (GST) distribution reforms, Anglicare Tasmania asserts that current GST arrangements are not aligned with the meaning and intent of the principle of horizontal fiscal equalisation. It advocates for a return to full horizontal fiscal equalisation and supports implementation of reforms proposed by Saul Eslake.
