Submission to the Inquiry into Poverty in Australia

This bulk of this submission will address the question of the impact of poverty in Australia’s regions, focusing on the state of Tasmania. Certain factors impacting on the experience of poverty, for example the very low incomes available to people dependent on Centrelink payments, particularly those dependent on Newstart Allowance, Youth Allowance and Austudy, are being experienced nationally. However, there are particular contextual issues at play in the regions which make the experience of poverty there particularly acute.
