Everyone should be able to follow their dreams

August 29, 2025

The screening of a film that demonstrates everyone’s potential to push themselves out of their comfort zone and achieve their goals was a highlight of National Brain Injury Awareness Week in Tasmania.

Anglicare Tasmania joined with the Brain Injury Association of Tasmania (BIAT) to present a free public screening of the powerful documentary Larapinta: end to end. More than 20 people attended the event at the Europa Café in Burnie, an accessible venue that is also used by BIAT for regular coffee catch-ups for people living with a brain injury across the North West.

The film follows a group of four Tasmanians with disabilities as they tackle the 230-km Larapinta Trail in the Northern Territory. The screening was followed by a Q&A session with film maker Paul Pritchard and fellow participant Paul Allen.

General Manager Acquired Injury Support Services with Anglicare Liz Leslie described the evening as ‘inspirational’.

“Paul Pritchard’s achievement in completing the Trail was phenomenal, and he and his fellow walkers pushed themselves to their limits,” she said.

“Paul is such a strong voice for people with disability. He explains that everyone, no matter their disability, needs to be able to make their own decisions – it’s a human right.

“We use this ‘dignity of risk’ approach with the people we support at Anglicare. If a person can provide informed consent about an activity they would like to do, it’s important that we do everything in our power to make that activity happen.”

A strong theme of Paul Pritchard’s advocacy is that everyone deserves the opportunity to follow their dreams.

“We don’t need to be bigger, or better, or first, but we still need to be out there, challenging ourselves. This is how we grow as humans,” he said.
