A strong background in public health and high quality service provision has seen Anglicare’s new General Manager – Aged Care Services hit the ground running at a time when the health and safety of clients and team members has never been more important.

Ellen Nicholson’s qualifications include a Masters of Public Health and Health Promotion. Her career includes a role as Quality Improvement and Outpatient Transformation Manager at a 700-bed hospital in the UK. In this role she worked with teams to reduce patient waiting times and length of stay, increase productivity and improve patient and staff experience. Prior to joining Anglicare, Ellen managed client services at BreastScreen Tasmania.

Ellen came to Anglicare as the Coordinator of its Social Action and Research Centre in December 2019. One of the projects that commenced under her leadership, Treasured Lives, highlighted the urgent need for tailored support for older Tasmanians who have challenges with hoarding or maintaining a healthy home. Other Anglicare research focuses on the needs of homeless unaccompanied children and improving access to public transport for people with a disability.

“The things I love most at work include providing care to the community, helping a team to flourish and improving the quality of a service – and this new role provides me with all those opportunities,” Ellen explains.

A supportive leadership style

“I lead by supporting others to do what they do best. To me, a productive, compassionate and happy team will lead to innovation and success. I’m also all about quality improvement, which means I have an eye on processes and systems as they are often the things that get in the way of people being able to do their best.”

Anglicare’s Aged Care Team is one of the largest in the State. The team delivers personal care, social support, cleaning and clinical services that enable older Tasmanians to remain independent in their own homes.

Our people care very deeply about their work and their clients. I really appreciate the professionalism and flexibility everyone is showing as we navigate our way through the current COVID situation. I know I speak for everyone at Anglicare when I say that supporting our clients and our team members is our highest priority at this time.
