Supported Accommodation Facilities

Supported Accommodation Facilities provide affordable rental accommodation with on-site support.

They are for people aged 18 years or over who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness, and who are eligible for social housing.

This type of accommodation suits people who:

  • Require low to moderate support to live independently;
  • Are willing to engage in support which enhances their capabilities to live a safe and happy life; and
  • Are able to live in a communal setting close to others with some shared facilities.

Long-term Supported Accommodation

Anglicare manages a number of facilities where tenants live in independent units, with access to some shared facilities. People need to be able to cook or arrange their own meals and do their own laundry.

Some on-site support is provided within set hours during the day-time. This can include supporting tenants to:

–  connect with health and community services

–  reconnect or stay connected with family and friends

– maintain their tenancy and develop their capabilities.

Rent is charged at 25% of residents’ income plus Commonwealth Rent Assistance. There is also a $50 per fortnight utilities charge.

Anglicare also manages communal accommodation in four supported residential facilities in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie.

These facilities are staffed 24/7 and there is a Lodge Manager who lives on site.

At these facilities, rent and board is calculated at 85% of people’s income (excluding Commonwealth Rent Assistance). This covers three meals a day, electricity, a weekly linen service for sheets and towels, and some recreational activities.
